Good Riddance, Keith!

I figured it would only be a matter of time before Howie Carr penned a smackdown of the man he loving called "Comrade Keith" Olbermann, the bombastic lion of the left who was mercifully shown the door at MSNBC on Friday.

If Howie's meanness seems a little over-the-top, it might be because he's trying to mock his subject. After all, Olbermann once called Mass. Senator Scott Brown an "irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, tea-bagging, supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees."

On the subject of conservative columnist Michelle Malkin getting hate mail, Olbermann thundered that it was "all thanks to the total mindless, morally bankrupt, knee-jerk, fascistic hatred, without which Michelle Malkin would just be a big mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick on it."

In a stinger, Howie pushed back with this reaction to a recent Olbermann segment:
... Comrade Keith did a 12-minute, spittle-streaked screed last week right out of the box. By the seven-minute mark, even Barney Frank had changed the channel.
Of Olbermann's interminable "special comment" segments and mediocre ratings, Howie added:
Fidel could get away with four-hour speeches because no one in Cuba had anywhere else to go.
It looks like it just boiled down to the fact that Olbermann is a very difficult employee who was being paid $7-8 million a year to bring in only about a million viewers a night. In a word, he was an overpaid jerk and Olbermann's bosses finally realized it.

I hope he goes back to sports. Frankly, I don't think Olbermann's that bright. The new star will be Rachel Maddow. Agree or disagree with her, but she is one very smart woman. Olbermann, on the other hand, is little more than a glorified jock-sniffer.

See, I can be just as mean as Keith ...

  1. I know very little about Keith Olbermann, accept that he's a lefty.

If he really said all of those things the way Terry said he did, then I'd say that he's a valuable asset to the conservative movement, and we'd hate to lose him.

Maybe Fox can give him a spot as a unifying gesture to support their fair and balanced posture.

  2. VR, yes Olbermann makes a good boogie man for the right, just as Limbaugh does for the left.

Indeed, I think the two have much else in common, most notably the fact that neither has guests who disagree with them because, evidently, they're afraid to debate anyone with a brain.

  3. Terry, Have you ever listened to Rush Limbaugh? I don’t mean the sound bites you hear from Air America, or NPR. Rush says it takes about six weeks of listening before you can understand the message that he’s conveying.

Any conservative will give him the admiration and respect that he has earned, and I’m talking about highly respected professionals like George Will, Charles Krauthammer, William F Buckley JR, and so on. Rush doesn’t have the education that they have, but he’s every bit as smart as they are. I can tell you right now that you’re not even close to being on his level. If you ever had an opportunity to debate him, he would tear you apart without ever saying anything defaming, or insulting as long as you kept a civil tone.

So in other words what I’m saying is that Rush Limbaugh is VERY smart, and he’s enjoyable to listen to. I honestly don’t think that you are all that sharp. I’m not saying that you’re dumb, I’m just saying that you are very predictable and uninteresting. I know it’s hard, because you’re surrounded by all of those pompous highbrow lefties of your area. Maybe if you stand up to them, someday they’ll allow you to think for yourself.

  4. VR, I never said Rush wasn't smart. I don't know where you got that idea. You seem to be suggesting there is something wrong with anyone who doesn't like him.

"Any conservative will give him the admiration and respect that he has earned." However, even if he is not their cup of tea, they're are often afraid of his influence and don't want to cross him. I've met dozens of conservatives, including some prominent, who have told me precisely that.

If Rush is such a great debater and would tear the likes of me apart, then why doesn't he have people on who can debate him? Isn't it reasonable to ask if he's afraid of something?

And BTW I have listened to Rush regularly for more than 20 years, so don't give me that typical ditto-head bullshit that I'm criticizing someone to whom I don't listen.

Thanks also for the personal attacks, pal. I love you, too.

  5. Another phenomenon I've noticed is that if you criticize Rush (or Olberrman) in the company of someone who likes him, they often take it personally and lash out in retribution.

It's kind of a ""very predictable and uninteresting" quality, wouldn't you say?

  6. Terry, In this statement you imply that Rush isn't smart enough to do well in a debate against anyone with a higher than average intellect.

"Evidently, they're afraid to debate anyone with a brain."

If you have really listened to Rush for twenty years then you would know what kind of person he is. Rush looks upon everyone as a potential conservative, so he doesn’t get involved in the tactics of fear and intimidation as you described. That’s another lie from the left, and it speaks volumes about who you really are. He’s the type of person that tries to give the ones on the left a taste of their own medicine. The ones that love throwing as much trash at us as they can in the hope that some of it will stick without any regard for the safety or well being of our citizens.

It’s obvious to me that you have a problem, and that is, you are a closet lefty, and you may have convinced yourself that you are impartial, and objective but you’re not. Just like when you said all of the same stuff about Carl Palidino that the typical lefty said about him without looking into who he really is, or why the left would feel threatened by him.

Why don’t you try to come up with something original instead of just repeating the same old tired dialog that we are all forced fed? I don’t mean to offend you by my remarks, but I think it’s important that you know how I see you, so you don’t go on thinking that you can bullshit me, otherwise you will start to believe that I’m as much of an idiot as you make me out to be.

  7. That's funny you say that because most of the lefties in this region think I'm a right-winger. In my previous blog I was subjected to all manner of abuse from readers -- one of whom branded me a Rush-wannabe. Imagine that.

My statement that you cite does not "imply" that Rush isn't smart, but rather that he isn't a good debater and doesn't want to be shown up by someone who is. Ditto Olberrman. There is a big difference.

BTW I have never claimed to be "impartial." Again, this is a word you pulled out of thin air to prove what? That I actually have an opinion when I claim not to?

Yes, I have listened to Rush for 20 years and know what kind of person he is: a loud-mouth who plays fast-and-lose with the facts. How do I know this?

Whenever he talks about a subject that I am very familiar with, he makes error after error. And he has so little of import to say that he resorts to name-calling time and again.

Look, you like him; I don't. Why can't you just accept that?

  8. BTW I don't think you're an "idiot" at all. We just disagree. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

  9. Terry, maybe you should make a stand instead of being one of them inbetweeners. Either come out of the closet, and announce to the world that you believe that the left is more correct than the right and be done with it. Either that, or you could grow a set of testicles, and stand with us to keep our country safe by closing the holes created by the left, the holes that allow foreign powers to get in and do the damage that keeps our country off balance, and on edge.

We all have a choice, but there’s only one right choice once you realize who’s responsible for degrading our country’s security to the point that it makes us vulnerable. There’s a subversive element that many of our countrymen have sign on to, and it’s unfortunate that so many of these people are unaware of the damage that this seditious force is prepared to do to our country in order to get what they want. It’s up to each one of us to identify this subversive faction and contain them, and at the same time free the ones that have been held hostage by means of a foreign system that has been set up right here on American soil, and is controlled, and operated by this subversive faction. We should all ask ourselves “Am I supporting that?”

Oh yea, there’s one more thing. If you don’t like Rush Limbaugh, then why have you listened to him for twenty years? I think you may stretch the truth from time to time in order to win an argument.

  10. That's funny, too. VR. If I don't like Rush, then I'm accused of not listening to him. If I reply that I DO listen to him, then I'm asked why I listen to him if I don't like him. Which is it?

Anytime I'm in the car between noon and 3, I tune Rush in, just so I know whereof I speak. He is a jerk and a phony. I know that for sure.

You seem to think that it's all or nothing. Take a stand with one ideology and stick with it. Truth be told, both sides have their shares of hypocrites and liars. I do tend to side with the right more than the left. But I guess you never noticed.

As for national security issues, yes the Dems have made some big mistakes over the years, including many of the ones you cite.

But here's where the problem is. I do not think marching into Iraq, for example, has made us any more secure. Indeed, you could make a very plausible case that it has not only made us less secure but has caused the death of thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) or Americans and Iraqis.

Call me an "inbetweener" if you will. But if you believe every propaganda initiative and charm offensive put out by the right or left, then there's not much I can do for you.

  11. Terry, I can only think of two reasons that someone wouldn’t like Rush.

    1) You’re a lefty, or

    2) You can’t get by the preconceived notion that has been forced upon all of us by the left, and you are just one of the many people that go along with it because it’s easier for you to fit in with your peers, the ones that need others to do their thinking for them.

In your case I’d say that both apply. Those smear tactics work that’s why they do it, and you may be living proof of that. Rush Limbaugh is no phony that’s for sure. He’s a man that will always stand by what he says, and you'd know that if you really listened to him for twenty years. There are areas of his rhetoric that I don’t like, but YOU never once mentioned anything accept the nasty things that the left pushes onto all of us. “He’s a jerk, and a phony” or my personal favorite, a “hypocrite”. Did you come up with that one on your own? Hmmm.

Even though he says things that I don’t care for sometimes, he and I both agree on one point in particular, and that is the “inbetweeners” don’t have the balls to stand for anything. They’re just looking for the easiest way, or the path of least resistance.

As for national security, you act as though the mistakes were in the past, but it’s all better now. Wake up! It’s an ongoing situation, it’s what they do, and it’s who they are. Then they twist everything around to put the entire blame on the right, and they get all of the people looking for the easy way to go along with them because they do have the easy way, just blindly do as they say and they’ll make life easier for you. They have a way of doing things that thoroughly disgusts me, and there are so many people out there just like you that can’t, or won’t accept the truth so we’re all just stuck in neutral getting nowhere.

Nobody wants to send our men and women to war without a good reason. It has to do with oil, and heroin, and I hope you can figure this one out by yourself, but I will say we’re not over there because we want their heroin.

  12. I've been very patient but I've had about all I can take with the insults and personal conjecture about my intellect. So long, dude. Find another sandbox to play in. It shouldn't be too hard.

  13. Wow. I find it amazing how VR puts a right-wing zealot on a pedestal, yet trashes a left-wing extremist. As I've said in previous posts paraphrasing Holocaust survivor Eli Weisel, there is a danger in extremism, be it left or right. It's the unfortunate man or woman who cannot discern the danger.

I once had a bumper sticker on an older car of mine that read "Fundamentalism stops a thinking mind." I think I should find another.

  14. Billy, if you find another one of those bumper stickers, send it to me. I'd be happy to put it on my own bumper.

  15. To which I would add to VR and I think it's from an old Steeler's Wheel song: "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right ..."
