  1. Great column, Terry. Even down here, in the Carolinas, there's more common sense than that shown by those wanting to obey Blue Laws up there. Across the line in South Carolina you can buy booze all day Sunday. where we are, in North Carolina, you have to wait until noon. This, in states where Baptist churches are as numerous as palmettos.

  2. At one time, bars had to close early on Sunday. Employers did not want their workers to show up hung over on Monday.

  3. London had some pretty weird pub laws when I was stationed just north of there. The pubs had to close for a few hours in the afternoon, reopen, then close at 11 p.m.

  4. Terry, you know where I stand, but after reading your article, actually, I think it's all just getting funny. How this band of little merchants of one industry, (for the most part) want nothing to do with working on Sunday. Period. The Tax people are against them. The few larger stores are mostly against them, however I heard one of the bigger guys doesn't want to open either.. The, pardon me, lazy shoppers, who suddenly after all these years can no longer plan ahead, are against them. Now the mayors are against them too? Gad! I didn't know when I went into this I would be so disliked!

    I love it.....

  5. Yeah, a lot of people don't like the law, except for the people who claim it will hurt them. What else is new, right?
